About the event
SYMS is the brainchild of a collaboration between the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene, University of Zurich, and the Swiss Society for Food Hygiene (SGLH) established in 2021. This unique event targets young scientists (undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate researchers) from Switzerland in all fields of microbiology. The core aim of this event is to enhance data exchange and improve early-career scientists presentation skills by affording them the platform to share their project ideas and latest results. Participants get input and feedback from peers improving their presentation skills and getting new insights to advance their research. The event aims to further encourage and foster networking, collaboration, data exchange, and resource sharing.
For continued education, prominent scientists are invited to deliver keynote lectures on groundbreaking scientific discoveries and pertinent issues including Covid-19, Global warming, Equity in Science, Entrepreneurship, Grant writing, and Delivering award-winning presentations. This year one of the keynote lectures will focus on the journey of a young entrepreneur who founded and established a very successful bioscience startup. At the end of each symposium, six presenter prizes for the oral and poster sessions will be awarded to the best presenters as defined by a jury (1st place: 300 CHF each, plus certificate and annual ASM membership). There will be an open-ended mixer to further network. Meals and drinks will be provided.
SYMS is the first Swiss microbial science meeting exclusively targeting early career scientists with the goal of driving discovery, innovation, and collaboration amongst young microbiologists.
Be part of this unique meeting uniting the young microbial scientists throughout Switzerland.
